On September 15, 2018 a multi-disciplinary artist Najja Moon presented her first printed collection of works. The event took place in an intimate setting of Soho Beach House.
Najja Moon works primarily in the context of collaboration to cultivate art spaces that foster community. She is a Co-Founder of the BLCK family, Co-Creator of This Girls Lunchbox and youth arts educator. Najja uses art as a vehicle to making people feel comfortable, an as a result, vulnerable and connected.
“Finding Out You Are Whole” hones in on the power of introspection while committing to a solo visual practice. Najja Moon states: “My fragilities have gone, thus far, practically unacknowledged. Unbeknownst to me, prior to this, having the space to collaborate has allowed me to move in affirming spaces that have minimized my need to self explore. Above all, this work is the antithesis to that.”
The 52-page book contains ink line drawings that Moon pairs with text. The completed sketches are presented in dialogue with commentary from a variety of artists and art critics including Michelle Lisa Polissaint (Locust Projects, Miami, FL), Franklin Sirmans (Perez Art Museum Miami, Miami, FL), Jessica Lynne (Recess & Arts.Black, New
York, NY) and more. The director of the Perez Art Museum Miami, Franklin Sirmans described the work as “precision in mark-making techniques” and “lines drawn poetically.”
